Lots of rain. Good for planting, not so good for getting the leaves chipped and shredded to use as mulch.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Here's a link to more pics:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I also planted some Pink Muhly Grass out front. Right now, it looks like a tall crabgrass. I am hoping the blooms are all the magazines say they will be.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

First off, we have a woodpecker looking for love. On our METAL propane vent attached to our chimney. Sounds like a drill, and he likes to look for love early in the morning. So I'M up early in the morning. Even poor Kermit only got to sleep until 7am.

Mad a new quiche/frittata thing in the morning. Shredded potato, cheese, bacon, eggs. Turned out really nice. Next time I'm upping the temp and cooking it shorter. Took an hour at 350 degrees.

At around 10am, we headed out for a Clearwater County Safari! Up and around the loop to Pierce/Weippe. Took a side trip to Headquarters. Took CiCi along and let her out to romp around from time to time. Took a bunch of pics, which I will post on my Facebook Account since none of you actually read my blog. Kermit reads it, and leaves anonymous comments.

I'll insert pics here tomorrow.

Ate a very nice lunch at the Pioneer Inn in Pierce. My club sandwich was great, and Kermit had their chili burger which they served open face like civilized people do. I took half of mine home because the portions were sooo big!

Got home, took a nap, then we walked the pooches around the park. There was a big party at the City Park, with a bounce house. The kids were using the splash pad and having a blast.

Now to the gardening part!!!

When we got home, I planted the following:

Two kinds of radishes (Belle types)

Carrots (Nantes - not as long because of our clay type soil even with amending)

Lettuce Mix

I tried the "Potato Experiment" I took some clippings of rose bushes I wanted to start. One from next door that has the daintiest pink blossoms. The deer have been trying to kill it for years, but it survives. The other one is a nice climber that I wanted to mix with the Lilacs and the Hummingbird Vine. We'll see how it goes. You stick the the cutting into a potato, supposedly keeping it moist. I want to know the following: What if I get a crop of potatoes under it?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">What a fantastic day it was too.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Kermit and I made a nice Sunday breakfast, I worked on the yearbook a little in the morning.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Being such a nice day, we had to go on an adventure! Opened up the Jeep, and off we went. We took CiCi and Sofie to "Heart of the Monster" in Kamiah for a walk and some tracking training. CiCi trained, Sofie played. It is so cool to see CiCi when she's in tracking mode.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Came home, and did a bunch of yardwork. Pulled up the leaves on the perennial beds and put them in the HUGE PILE to be chipped and shredded over Spring Break.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Transplanted my strawberries to a new place, We're going to be replacing the raised beds this year, so I needed to clear the bed under the pile of bags in the foreground. Picture in the gallery below.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The bunnies both got to play in the yard today. I only took a picture of Walter though.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Did some minor upkeep on the beds. Sat and thought about what I want to change this year.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I dug up the hollyhocks today. Their leaves never looked great, and they were too tall for where they were planted. I was just done with them. Shorter plants will be but in their place as not to block the view to the rest of the yard.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Mike grilled chicken for dinner and I sat by the pond, watched the fish, petted the dogs.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Now I'm back inside writing this. I did finish a background for the yearbook.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ENJOY SPRING!!!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

So I haven't had time to really play in the dirt.

That all changed today!!!

So for my gardening soul, Spring started today, no matter when the official start is.

I turned over and separated out 3 compost piles. Took the matted leaves out and sprinkled them in an empty bed to dry out. When the leaves get a little crispy, I'll put everything through the chipper shredder, add manure, and hopefully it will compost fast.

Prepped my new strawberry bed. Will transplant tomorrow. My raised beds need rejuvenating, so I won't have as many veggies this year as a rebuilding year. Might redo the raised beds in a more artistic manner. Lots of ideas from Pinterest.

Plants that have come and gone already: Crocus, Snowdrops.

In Bloom: Daffodils

Budding in serious mode: Crab Apple, Lilac, Roses, Weigela, Willow.

Item that has taken over the yard, and it's OK with me: Leaf Celery. It's nice looking, only grows in clumps, digs out nicely. So I let it do what it wants within reason. I wonder if the rabbits can eat it. I'll look that up.

The Crabapple tree has been such a joy since its addition. The squirrels feed off it, the rabbits eat the dried trimmed limbs. It is the perfect size for the site.

Here are some pictures of the squirrels feasting this Winter.
Lettuce ended, peppers and tomatoes are ripening on a regular basis now that it is August.

My veggie beds need a rest next year. The plants just aren't as big, harvest is down. So next spring will be the "Year of the Soybean." Plant the whole thing in them and flowers and let it go. It will help rebuild the soil.

This Fall, I'm planning on replacing my raised beds after 10 years. A little tweaking on the size and placement, but not a lot.

Some Garden Notes

What has worked:

Shredding leaves for mulch and adding rabbit bedding.

Buying herbs and annuals from Hay's in Clarkston

Chard has done great

Strawberries used in perennial beds (for looks, not covered so the birds and dogs are getting the fruit) - I do intend to put a permanent strawberry bed SOMEWHERE up on my hill with a cover.

All the plants I picked for the pots around the pond are doing wonderfully.

So far so good on the new blueberry plants.

One regular

One pink blueberry bush

Snow peas did great in the half circle frame. I'll do that again.

What has NOT worked:

Welded wire covers over beds with bird netting.

Robin got caught in it. Hence, the need for a better location and cover for strawberries.

Plus, it just didn't look neat and it got in the way - A LOT.

Waiting forever to ship and shred leaves. Do it earlier next year!

The year round lettuce never sprouted. Either it is too hot, or the birds ate them.

I am going to make frames with bird netting when we make the new raised beds. The seeds need to be protected.

The lawn. The freakin' lawn. Getting water but is UGLY. Need to aerate and fertilize better next year.

Overall, the yard is still our little slice of sanctuary. Green, water, aaahhhhh.

Three wheelbarrows of dirt went into the fenceline perennial bed in the side yard.

The pups were out there with me of course.

I found two tree peony seedlings! Supposedly, they are very hard to grow from seed. I wonder what color they will be. I do not know if they are true to color from seed.

For dinner tonight, I am being able to serve my first fresh salad!!! Freckles, Red Sails, and Butter.

Two wrens are back and nesting in the "Snow in Winter" plant in the dog yard. This year I saw them, so I know not to go sticking my hand in the plant.

It was pretty windy, so we didn't spend a lot of time sitting out in the yard.

Tomorrow I'll post some pics of the grown up lettuce bed.IrisFleuronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14066646530026465500noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139796000536869750.post-21724876993210924382015-04-19T19:34:00.000-07:002015-04-19T19:34:22.229-07:00We Were Gardening Fools Today!Happy Sunday Everyone!

Started out by making a quiche for Kermit and me. It turned out well. Late breakfast, laid around and goofed off until about 11am.

After breakfast, Kermit and I got to work!

Yesterday, we went plant shopping at Hay's in Clarkston. They have really good plant stock.
A plug for Green Things Nursery in Orofino - don't know I'd survive without their local knowledge!

Today, 9 bags of dirt with manure mixed in from Orofino Builder's Supply. All of my finished compost, and the leaf/bunny shavings mix I had rotting.

I was going to try to plant them up on the hill, but I gave up that idea when it was obvious I'd have to spend at least a week relocating other stuff to make it happen, and that isn't going to happen.

Planted Today:
Pink Lemonade Highbush part Deu.
We planted one last year and the thing died. Got it from a different source this year and put it in a different spot. If it produces, it will have pink blueberries!

Elliot Northern Highbush
Smaller variety, blueberry. When I put this in, I found the rootball to the bush I tried last year. Did not change AT ALL. No root growth at all, no wonder it didn't survive.

I planted 25 strawberry plants, and cannot for the life of me remember their name. They are a variety that grows runners. I put a cage over the bed to keep the birdies and rottweilers out. Ok, not Rottweilers, but CiCi!!!! She has no concept of "Keep the heck out of my beds" yet. She's getting better. Lucky she's cute.

The lettuce looks like lettuce now. Fresh greens in a few weeks! A bunch of cilantro is sprouting.

Daffodils and Hyacinth faded. Lilacs and Narcissus are on their way. Red and yellow tulips in full bloom. Looks like they actually naturalized a little. I picked some Tulips from out front because I rather enjoy them inside than let the deer eat them. Deer LOVE tulips. And lots of other things.

Lettuce and Snow Peas.

I must have had my act together in the Fall, because I have 2 beds that are completely ready for planting, and one where I need to fill it with compost and dirt, and I'm done with that one.

The beds I use for flowers and vegetables are pretty much ready too. I'm not going to till this year.

Since I cannot rotate my night shade crops, I need to do some research and see what I need to do in order to recharge the soil. I really don't want to pull up all of my supports in order to plant a Spring cover crop and till it in.

Things I want to plant this year:
Lemon Grass
Roma
Early Girl or other early variety
ONLY two sungold plants (last year was the year of the cherry tomato)

Of course, I saw a bunch of things in the gardening catalogs that I would like, but don't remember them now.

We've had a LOT of birds in the backyard already this year. Finches, Woodpeckers, Juncos, Grosbeaks, and some Tanagers (I least I think they were).

I saw one this morning that I need to ID again. I've looked it up before, but I don't see them often enough to remember.

Today was "Clean Up Day" in the yard. Sifted dirt, put dirt out, turned the compost. There were soooo many worms. A few really large ones. Trimmed some bushes, raked up Fall debri, cut back the roses.

One piece of advice I got from Marc McGrath of gardening fame was "Leave the tomatoes up on the supports if you live in the North. When Spring comes, it will be easier to clean up." It definitely is. They're all dried up and just snap right off the supports.

Raked the bed that were ready to plant, put out eggshells. Last year, I think a lot of seeds got eaten. This year, I put welded wire with netting over it up to keep the birds and our new dog out of the bed where I put the lettuce.

I pickled many cukes, processed and froze many tomatoes. Flowers didn't do so well this year. I will try to be a better blog citizen next year just for my garden records alone. I will not like the Iris of Garden Season 2015 when I go back and find....nothing.

We went to Oregon for a week and had a great time with my friends Steph and Wulf. Met two of their friends who are very nice people.

We got a puppy! Sharon Marples of VonMarc Rottweilers had a bitch available from the litter we met in August. What a lucky break! We thought they'd all been placed, but Sharon kept two and decided to place the last one. WITH US. Whooo Hooo!!!IrisFleuronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14066646530026465500noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139796000536869750.post-22582814911111274042014-05-04T17:39:00.000-07:002014-05-04T17:39:28.505-07:00The story of a girl and 5 birdsA few weeks ago, I was puttering in the yard and thought I saw a weed in the middle of a plant. I put my hand in to get it and pulled out...a bird's nest.

After closing my mouth - it was gaping open stupified at the dumb thing I just did. I shoved the nest back into the plant as best I could. It had three little spotted eggs in it.

Anywere from a few days to a week later, I was in the spot checking to see if I had woven it in back in well enough. Obviously not, because the nest was on its side. I looked down, and two of the little ones were on the ground. I'm talking brand new with hardly any fuzz on them. Now this is in the Dog Yard. Luckily, I have very lazy dogs that never go out to their yard while I'm at work. I picked them up, put them back in, and then devised a way to fortify the nest.

Fortified Bird's Nest. That is garden fabric that rain goes through.
I stuffed it with straw then put the trail of plant and nest into that approximately where it was built.

Momma or Poppa Bird in the nest with the wee ones.

I felt so bad for disturbing them in the first place! Since then its been rainy and windy with no ill effects. Mom and Dad bird take turns feeding, and they have not abondoned the nest. If I get in a particular spot in the yard, I can see the fuzzbies in there. All three are still there and are getting fat and sassy. Definitely more fuzz on them.
Since it's in the Dog Yard, no cat in their right mind would be back there. That's a plus.

I feel much better now. It's a part of the dog yard that I'm in quite a bit and they have gotten very accepting of me being around. They'll dart back and forth while I'm out there with the bunny.

Here's two pictures of who I believe is the Momma Bird. I think the one that is male is a little fluffier with a bigger darker spot on its chest.

Got some bills paid, did a little tech research. And then something great happened - the sun came out!

I had some errands to run so I did those first. When I got home I leashed up the girls and took them out for a nice long stroll.

I started a new Ann Rule book on my tablet. I love the Kindle app.

The outdoors kept beckoning me. Out I went and got really muddy. I pulled some perennial Vinca out of my border and transplanted a dwarf Rhododendron. When I pulled it out I was really disappointed in the root growth. It's been in the ground for two years and it popped right out in mostly the same shape that it was planted in. Which means it was horribly root bound and the roots are probably just still circling in. I might dig it up again and box cut the roots.

There were some Lillies that stuck out like a sore thumb after they bloomed last year, so I dug those up and put them behind some bushes so the foliage would be hidden but not the flowers when they bloom. They came with the house, I'm not sure what kind of Lillies they are. They were about 4' tall last year. The corms were huge. I was able to split one into three sections. So more Lillies this Summer.

No early fake Spring day is complete without playing in the compost pile. I have MAJOR wormage. That's my term for big, fat, multitudes of worms.

The fish have come out of hibernation and were greeting Sofie and I. Penny opted to stay in and cuddle by her heat register.

It started to rain a little and I don't work outside in the rain. I brought my muddy self in and it took a good 10 minutes to get all the mud out of my fingernails, because of course I did not wear gloves. As if the day could not get any better, I look up and there is a FULL RAINBOW.
Every. Single. Day.

Head back out on the road for the short leg of the scenic drive. Once again, Sofie does not use her break time on the road the way we'd like.

Check in is 4pm, but we got there a little early and decided to see if the place was ready. It was!

UNPACKING TIME!!!!

Checked out the kitchen, made a list and went grocery shopping.

Wulf and Steph were about 2 hours behind us, so we had plenty of time to do the errands and settle in.

When they got here, no one felt like cooking so we went to Nana's Irish Pub a block or two away from their hotel room. The food was good. It was a hoppin' place. Pretty packed. Service, meh. Lost a sale on a round of drinks because they never checked on us during the meal.

After dinner, we walked around a bit then stopped at a local watering hole by the Chowder House. Sand Bar. Friendly bartender. Good drinks.
I have not seen my friends Steph and Wulf for at least 10.

The vacation gods smiled upon our date choosing, and I was able to do both Aug 1-8.

First, THE DRIVING!

On the way in, we decided to take the scenic route. 84 to 97 through Bend then 20 to Newport. It was a beautiful drive but a few things did not go as planned of course.

I bought the dogs harnesses and a seatbelt gadget that did not work with a darn. There is no way they would have been able to sit up with those. So against what I wanted, we just put up the center divider in the truck and they rode in the back seat. Heaven help us if we got in a wreck. I am going to take apart the seatbelt things and redesign them to work for medium to big dogs. Plus, the way seatbelts stop now, the way they had it was just dumb. It was too hot for them to ride in the kennels in the back of the truck. Luckily, they were both mellow and just slept or looked out the window.

Sofie did not understand why we take road breaks. Penny did. Penny would do her business right away. Sofie NEVER did business on the road breaks. She just held it until after dinner every night. I can't imagine that's comfortable, but I can't think of a way to MAKE her go. At least she got to stretch, walk around and sniff everything.

We stayed at a generic Hotel 6 or 8, I can't remember. It was OK, not great. But with two dogs, who cares. It was obviously an old smoking room because it stank. But it was right by the outside exit. Since I was taking Sofie out every half hour in the hopes of a dry hotel room, I was thankful for the placement. She finally went at around 9pm, in the rain of course.

Meals with two people and two dogs is interesting. Hubby gets his meal, I wait with the dogs. I go get my meal, he waits with the dogs. Lots of fast food. I have never been so eager for a serving of vegetables after 3 meals of fast food eaten in the truck. Next time, packing a cooler and picnicking.

How Penny spent 90% of the trip:
So I sat out in the yard for hours reading an e-book. I left the camera on and just let it go into standby. When I heard them, I'd pick up the camera and try to get them.
Not enough to save for a meal, but the snacking while I work outside is good. I have to keep Penny away from them though. She loves snow peas. The problem is that she doesn't have the opposeable thumb thing going for her, so she tends to tug too hard and harms the plant. Which is counterproductive to getting new snow peas.

The Lillies are gone. Larkspur is hanging in there. The hummingbirds just love them. I have to regulars that are feeding at the flowers and feeders I put out.

You can buy these little stoppers that go on the inside of the lid to keep bugs out. It works, and my feeders stay nice and clear.

The "Mighty Maters" are doing GREAT. So far outgrowing the regular ones by double the size. We'll see how it goes come production time.

These pictures are just because. The pond Koi don't get a lot of press on my blog, but they are wonderful. They beg for their food in the evening, play in the waterfall.
So far, there has been PLENTY for me to do and learn.

Tomorrow, the IT Crowd will be out at the Meridian Center.

I am so proud of myself! Armed with my phone and a complete lack of direction, I was able to go to the Boise Aquarium, the Boise on The Square Mall, and go Downtown for a meal in the Basque District.

The aquarium was crawling with kids. Most of them were just adorable. Being the mom/teacher type, there were a few that I had to set straight. "Please don't poke the Iguana." "Could you put those snails back in their tank?"

There were a few that I had some great conversations with on "What exactly DOES a stingray feel like?" A young lady and I decided it was a mix of rubber and soft silky fur. Whatever it was like, it was way cool.

I went in the bird cage and fed some. I can't remember the type, but the lady said they were basically Australian Pigeons. She said that they are considered pests there. They were pretty though. I have some pics on my phone that I'll upload when I get home.

Walked around the Mall, and didn't buy a dang thing. Must be sick.

Got downtown where the most difficult thing was finding a parking garage that wasn't full. I did find one though, right by the off ramp, so it was easy to find on my way back.

With my trusty phone by my side, I ventured to the Basque District and had a very nice Kobe Beef sandwich. I tried a watermelon beer (a small one, I was driving) and it was so refreshing.

That was a lot of walking. Back at the hotel now, listening to a three piece combo playing jazz/blues/easy listening. One female and one male singer. I was at the patio bar, but it got horribly windy so I moved to my balcony at the room.

Now to just settle in and relax.IrisFleuronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14066646530026465500noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139796000536869750.post-47204963180296763052013-05-26T20:39:00.000-07:002013-05-26T20:39:40.936-07:00Garden Shopping!My husband and I had a really nice day. We went to Patt's Garden Center in Clarkston and spent too much money. Went out to a nice lunch at Roosters, a restaurant overlooking the Snake River.

I bought two of those new grafted tomatoes - I'll be reporting on how they do compared to regular ones. I hope they out perform them considering they were pretty pricey.

There will be a blueberry bush "Pink Lemonade" at the entrance to the garden. Inside the fence of course.

I've been taking lots of pictures lately, so I'll just put a few here.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Actually, it was more like playing in the dust. I finally got all of my chipping and shredding done after the game. Looks a lot nicer out there without all the piles and debri. They are all nice and neat in their black composters.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">When I came in, I was filthy. Took a nice long shower since I was not fighting anyone for the bathroom. (You know who you are.)
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The plant that tried to take over the world has been thwarted by newspaper and top soil. There is some here and there that I couldn't do that with. I'll just have to pull those by hand.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I'll have to go to Garden Web to look up what it is. I asked last year and got an answer but of course never wrote it down here. That is a great site by the way.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">My next door neighbor's rose bushes died from being browsed by deer. Dear Neighbor happens to live on the Deer Highway. For some reason, they always take her garden to come down from the hill to the street. There are plenty of other yards not fenced, so it's a mystery why they picked that spot. Having a big emplty spot, she asked me to look up some sort of prickly plant to put in it's place. (ooohhhh, illiteration, my fave).
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I chose a variety of barberry that is lime green. I wish I could remember the name of the company, because the plants are minuscule. They're putting on new growth and I'm happy about that. They charged her more than $10 per plant that at a local place would have been a gallon specimen. Locally, you can't get the variety that online offers though. It's a trade off. As long as I can get them to live through the summer they should be OK.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">What's blooming:
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Back to my regular programming:
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">What a busy day yesterday! A teen came out and pulled grass for me and moved piles of debri that I created over a week or two. I have a motto. "I make the piles, someone else moves the piles." Now that I don't have teens of my own, that may have to change.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I had a a bunch of plastic pots of varying colors and textures that didn't really go together. So I bought some spray paint and got to work.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">All lined up waiting for flowers. I need to figure out the kind of look I want this year. I want to change it up and make it look really different.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Here's a shot of the early Spring garden.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I found this planter at Home Depot and thought it would look nice with the other pots. It fits this spot perfectly. I usually put my fish planter there, but like I said, I wanted to change things up a little. this year.
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">In a little bit, I'll be going out front to pull some more weeds.IrisFleuronhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14066646530026465500noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139796000536869750.post-44004228994684023682013-04-28T17:26:00.000-07:002013-04-28T17:26:22.542-07:00A Wonderful Gardening Day!

All around, a great Sunday.

Sofie and Penny were nice enough to let me sleep until 6am - that's good. Got up and had some coffee, read the paper, played my silly Facebook games.

Kermit got up later and I made a decent breakfast. Bacon of course, toast, and some simple over easy eggs. But it was yummy.

Then outside for some serious work. Dug out the rest of the very large garlic. I think it's elephant garlic, but I'm not sure. I will pile it up on the hill, and it will grow.

Weeded some, and of course it is not a gardening day if I don't
Move. Some. Rocks.
I don't know why I keep moving rocks, but it seems to be a favorite activity. I had a teen move them down to the lower yard from the hill thinking I was going to build one of my walls. That did not work out so I had to buy wall block. As I look around, I believe, truly believe I will not be moving rocks down into the lower yard again. I cannot say the same for the hill. I see rock moving there.

So the natural rock had to be moved. I was not going to move them back up the hill. So I made some pockets for my neighbor, and some for me, and gave the rest of the rock away to another neighbor.

Kermit is at this moment working on the block wall. He's really good at it. I'll find some old pics of the spot later, and post some before and after when it's all done.
In Other Gardening News

The last two years I had this plant show up in my yard. It looked bamboo-ish, and I let it go. Holy Guacamole that was a bad move. I tilled that bed this year, and a bazillion of the seedlings came up. After talking to the My Smart Puppy Brain Trust I tried the following.

First I tilled it again. Then I put down newspapers and cut up grocery bags. Kermit went and got me some top soil for on top if it. Hope this works because I don't ever want to see that plant again. The topsoil was pricey at over $2 a cubic foot. It turned out to be a much higher quality than the normal stuff I've seen sold as top soil. It had manure, dirt, and bark in it. I've seen "topsoil" that was pretty bad clay stuff.
